生活英语──工作证的准备

david is from canada. he is currently in taiwan as an exchange student. due to the fact that he is graduating this year and hopes to stay in taiwan to work after graduation, he has gone to school to ask about how he can apply for a work permit.

david是加拿大来台湾的留学生，今年的他準备从大学毕业了，不过他毕业后想留在台湾工作，所以他去学校询问工作证的申请问题。

david: hi, i have some questions about getting a work permit.

david：你好！我想询问一下工作证的问题。

receptionist: are you looking to apply for a part-time work permit?

柜台人员：你是要办打工的工作证吗？

david: no. i’m graduating this year and i was wondering what documents i would need to prepare if i were to stay in taiwan and work.

david：不是。我今年要毕业了，我想要询问如果我要留在台湾工作，应该要準备什麼文件？

receptionist: right. will you be delaying your graduation?

柜台人员：是这样呀！你会延毕吗？

david: no, i should be able to graduate on time.

david：不用，我可以準时毕业。

receptionist: then you need to first find a company that is willing to hire you and ask them to provide a copy of your employment contract. are you looking for long-term employment or short-term?

柜台人员：那你要先去找到一家愿意录用你的公司，然后请他们跟你签合约。你是要长期还是短期的呢？

david: what difference does it make?

david：有什麼分别呢？

receptionist: if it’s less than 6 months, then you need to apply for a short-term work permit with taiwan’s ministry of foreign affairs. if it’s more than 6 months, then you can apply for the regular work permit for foreigners.

柜台人员：如果是少於六个月的话，那就是要向台湾的外交部办理短期工作居留证，如果是超过六个月，就可以申请一般外籍人员的工作证。

david: i see. i’ll need to apply for a long-term one then.

david：了解了，那我应该是要长期的。

receptionist: in that case, it’s best that you find a job soon and obtain a copy of your employment contract. after that, you need to take your contract, graduation certificate, passport and a recent passport size photo of yourself to the ministry of foreign affairs to complete your application.

柜台人员：那你最好快点找到公司，并与他们签合约，之后拿合约跟你的毕业证书还有你的护照与最近期的个人护照用的相片，到外交部去办理就可以了！

david: i see. thanks for your help!

david：那我懂了，谢谢你！

receptionist: you’re welcome.

柜台人员：不用客气。
