生活英语──得癌症的不幸消息

cathy has been looking depressed lately. for this reason, henry decided to ask her what is going on at lunch break today. to his shock, cathy told him some devastating news.

henry发现cathy最近心情不太好他趁著今天中午跟她一起吃饭的时间，询问她最近的情况，没想到cathy竟然讲了一个令人错愕的消息。

henry: what’s going on with you? you haven’t been yourself since monday.

henry：你最近怎么了？从星期一开始，妳就一直魂不守舍的样子。

cathy: it’s nothing!

cathy：没有啦！

henry: come on, we’ve been working together for so long. you can tell me!

henry：我们都同事这么久了，有什么事不好说的，说说看嘛！

cathy: all right, it’s my mom. she’s not doing too well.

cathy：好吧，是我妈啦。她最近不太好。

henry: did something happen?

henry：发生什么事了吗？

cathy: she went to the hospital for a check-up last week and found out that she has lymph cancer.

cathy：我妈妈上星期去医院检查，发现得了淋巴癌。

henry: gosh! how did that happen?

henry：我的天呀！怎会这样？

cathy: the doctor said she is in the second stage now.

cathy：医生说现在是第二期。

henry: is it treatable?

henry：那有办法治疗吗？

cathy: she’s having her first chemo session this friday.

cathy：她这星期五就要做第一次化疗了。

henry: i’m really sorry to hear that. how are you coping with everything?

henry：我很难过听到这个消息，你还好吧？

cathy: i’ve been pretty down since i found out about it last monday.

cathy：上星期一知道这消息，我就一直狠难过。

henry: i guess you just have to take what life throws at you, huh?

henry：事情既然发生了，也只能去面对了，是吧？

cathy: i guess.

cathy：我想是吧。

henry: let’s face it with courage then! at the end of the day, sickness and death are both part of life, right?

henry：那我们就勇敢去面对吧！生、老、病、死，不就是每个人必经的过程？

cathy: yeah, but i just didn’t think i would have to deal with it so soon. i mean my mom is only 56.

cathy：是呀！只是我没想到来得这么快，我妈才五十六岁而已。

henry: there are a lot of things in life that are beyond our control. right now, just focus on spending more time with your mom.

henry：这世上很多事不是我们可以控制的，这段期间就多陪陪她。

cathy: i will. thanks.

cathy：我会的，谢谢你。
