if you have work experience, you would know that looking for a job is never an easy task. the interviews and salary negotiations can be scary. but, putting those aside, you would need a solid resume to start with. and new research suggests that you only have six seconds to make a good impression on the employers.

job recruitment website the ladders conducted a survey to work out what matters most on a resume. the findings showed that as employers looked through resumes and online profiles, they paid special attention to six different areas on the resume, including the applicant’s name, current title/company, previous title/company, current position start and end dates, previous position start and end dates, and finally, education.

on average, recruiters spend six seconds on sizing up these aspects to make the first decision on whether to trash the resume or to consider the person for the position. it was also found that pictures, graphs, and ads are distracting. so make sure your resume is without visual clutter, make a clear layout, and focus on the six key aspects mentioned above. finally, get ready for the interview!
