鬼(guǐ)

Ghost

传说人死了就会变成“鬼”。所以原来的“鬼”字就象一个有可怕脑袋的人。

(chuán shuō rén sǐ le jiù huì biàn chéng guǐ. suǒ yǐ, yuán lái de guǐ zì jiù xiàng shì yí gè yǒu kě pà nǎo dài de rén.)

According to legend, people would turn into ghosts after they passed away. Therefore, the original character for ghost resembles a person with a frightening head.
