think you know your animals? these facts may surprise you!

以為自己了解动物吗？下述事实可能会让你难以置信！

contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand. instead, they lie down when threatened. and although opossums’ tails are strong, they do not generally hang by them and most certainly don’t sleep when hanging by them. sorry, disney! you got that one wrong!

跟人们普遍相信的事实相左，驼鸟不会把头埋进沙里，而是会在受到威胁的时候躺下。还有，儘管负鼠的尾巴狠强壮，牠们通常不会用尾巴吊挂，更不会边睡边用尾巴吊挂著。抱歉，迪士尼！你们把这个给弄错啦！

touching a toad will not give you warts. warts are caused by human viruses, not amphibian skin. so touch away – although i wouldn’t recommend kissing one! ever heard the expression, “don’t be a lemming?” while lemmings do engage in group behaviors, they don’t follow each other blindly and they are not the followers our lexicon has made them out to be.

触碰蟾蜍不会让你长疣。疣是因人类病毒造成，而不是因两栖动物的皮肤引起。所以想摸就摸吧──不过我可不建议亲吻牠！听过「不要当隻旅鼠」的说法吗？虽然旅鼠的确会跟著团体一起行动，但牠们其实不会盲目跟随彼此，并非我们俚语中形容牠们的那样。

earthworms that have been cut or split in half do not become two worms. while the head end will regenerate, the tail end will die. think the color red angers a bull? nope! cattle are dichromatic and respond to the cape’s movement, not color. been told you are, “blind as a bat?” well, bats are not blind. they use echolocation to help them hunt, but they certainly aren’t blind and can actually see quite well.

蚯引被切或是分成一半并不会变成两条蚯引。头部的部分会再生，而尾巴的部分会死掉。以為红色会引起公牛愤怒？不会！牛隻有二色色盲，而且牠们是对披风的动作有反应而不是对颜色有反应。曾经被人说你是「跟蝙蝠一样眼瞎」吗？其实蝙蝠并不瞎。牠们运用回声定位来协助牠们猎捕，但是牠们并非眼盲，而且其实能看得狠清楚。

that loving koala bear that you adore? it’s not actually a bear at all. it’s a marsupial. think your fish has a three-second memory? nope. (darn you, disney!) they actually remember well, up to three months on average.

而你喜欢的可爱无尾熊呢？其实牠们根本不是熊。牠们是有袋动物。以為你的鱼只有三秒的记忆？错。（迪士尼！都你害的！）牠们其实记忆力还不错，平均记忆力能到三个月之久。
