威廉·莎士比亚（W. William Shakespeare，1564－1616）是欧洲文艺复兴时期最重要的作家，杰出的戏剧家和诗人，他在欧洲文学史上占有特殊的地位，被喻为“人类文学奥林匹克山上的宙斯”。 他亦跟古希腊三大悲剧家艾思奇利斯(Aeschylus)、索福克里斯(Sophocles)及幼里匹蒂斯(Euripides)合称戏剧史上四大悲剧家。

在莎士比亚诞辰450周年纪念日到来之际，让我们一起来盘点一下大文豪的那些作品。莎士比亚早期的作品主要以历史剧（history）和喜剧（comedy）为主，偶尔有几部悲剧（tragedy）；中期多悲剧，他著名的四大悲剧都是在这期间创作的，同时还创作了流传后世的十四行诗（The Sonnets）；他晚期的四部作品中有三部是悲喜剧（tragicomedy），其余一部为历史剧《亨利八世》。
