生活会话──退租adsl

ruby has been living in the us for some time now. recently, her landlord decided to increase her rent, so she had to try to reduce unnecessary spending. it occurred to her that she could cancel her broadband contract since she can connect to the internet through her cell phone already, so she took her modem to the telecommunications company.

ruby在美国住一段时间，最近房东想要涨她房价，她只好想办法降低不必要的开支。她想到手机可以既然上网，那她租的adsl应该就可以退掉了。她拿著数据机来到了电信公司。

customer service clerk: good afternoon, what can i do for you today?

柜台：午安！今天想办什麼业务？

ruby: i would like to cancel my broadband contract. here’s my modem.

ruby：我想要退adsl，这是数据机。

customer service clerk: okay, do you have your social security number or passport number with you?

柜台：好的。请问妳带了社会安全码或护照号码吗？

ruby: here’s my passport.

ruby：这是我的护照。

customer service clerk: thank you. can i ask why you want to end your contract?

柜台：谢谢。请问妳為何想要退租呢？

ruby: it’s because i already have mobile broadband service on my phone. plus, i spend most of my time outside, so it’s not really necessary to have broadband internet service at home.

ruby：因為我的手机已经使用4g上网了，而且平常待在外面的时间比较多，我想应该就用不到adsl。

customer service clerk: but broadband connections are more stable and slightly faster than 4g wireless internet connections.

柜台：可是adsl的讯号比较稳定，相对4g还是快一些呢。

ruby: i’m not very picky with the internet connection speed. i’ve tried using 4g at home and i think the speed is reasonable.

ruby：我对上网速度的要求倒还好，我在家试过，速度还可以。

customer service clerk: i see. i’ll sort out the paperwork for the termination of your contract then. you will only be charged until today. please sign on these two forms for me.

柜台：了解了，那我帮妳办理退租，妳的费用就算到今天。请在这两张表格上帮我签个名。

ruby: sure.

ruby：好的。

customer service clerk: here’s your s50 deposit and your receipt. i’ll need your signature on there as well.

柜台：另外退给妳租金50元，这是收据，也麻烦您帮我签一下。

ruby: no problem.

ruby：没问题。

customer service clerk: the fees to date will be charged to your credit card. please keep an eye out for the charge on your bank statement. thank you. everything’s sorted then.

柜台：到今天的租金会从您的信用卡扣除，再麻烦您留意一下，谢谢。那这样就可以了。

ruby: thanks!

ruby：谢啦
