(国际) 澳洲孩童移民收容所有如地狱

the australian human rights commission recently found that children held in immigration centers in australia’s main detention for asylum seekers on christmas island live in disturbing conditions.

澳洲的人权委员会最近发现在澳洲扣留寻求庇护者的主要收容中心：圣诞岛移民收容所里的孩童，生活在令人作呕的环境之中。

gillian triggs, commission president, stated that 315 children have been held for between six and eight months, and most appeared visibly upset. children told members of the inquiry “this place is hell” and asked that the inspectors “help me get out of here.” the children are not given a place to play and have nothing to do.

pediatrician karen zwi and child psychiatrist sarah mares noted that children have resorted to biting themselves and banging their heads in frustration, bedwetting, and some have even stopped talking. triggs added, “the overwhelming sense is of the enormous anxiety, depression, mental illness, but particularly developmental retardation.”

triggs is currently arguing that under international human rights law children should only be detained as a last resort, but the australian minister scott morrison was not available for comment.
