 life english – invitation to a dinner fundraiser

生活英文──邀请参加募款晚会

fiona and wendy are college classmates. during lunchtime today, a member of the school sorority invited them to a dinner party which her group is holding.

fiona与wendy两个人是大学同学，今天中午吃饭时，学校里一位姐妹会同学nicole，邀请她们两位参加她们会举办的晚宴。

nicole: hello ladies!

nicole：两位好呀！

fiona: hi!

fiona：嗨！

nicole: sorry to interrupt your lunch, but i was wondering if you guys would be interested in attending the dinner party which the school sorority is hosting this friday at 8? it’s to raise money for victims of the recent earthquake.

nicole：不好意思打扰两位吃饭，本週五晚上八点，姐妹会要举办晚宴，要替最近那场地震的灾民募款，不晓得两位有没有兴趣？

wendy: where will it be held?

wendy：在哪里举办呀？

nicole: it will be held at the hilton banquet hall on whitaker street. there will be tapas, wine, beer and other refreshments at the event, as well as exciting performances for you to enjoy.

nicole：在惠特克街的希尔顿晚宴厅举办。活动中会有小吃、红酒、啤酒和其他茶点，也会有精采表演供两位观赏。

fiona: is it free?

fiona：是免费的吗？

nicole: no, there’ll be a small entry fee at the door. it’s s20 per person.

nicole：不是耶。会在门口收一些入场费。每人20元。

fiona: that sounds reasonable. do you want to go?

fiona：听起来还算合理。你想去吗？

wendy: sure. i’m not doing anything on friday anyway.

wendy：好啊。反正我礼拜五也没排事情。

fiona: yeah and it’ll be for a good cause.

fiona：好耶，而且我们是在做善事。

nicole: great! here’s the invitation. you’ll find details on the fundraiser inside. oh, and before i forget, it’s a semi-formal event, so please remember not to wear things like jeans, t-shirts and flip-flops. you can wear a cocktail dress or a pantsuit and heels.

nicole：太好了！邀请函在这里，募款晚会的详细资讯都在里面了。噢，怕我忘记所以先跟你们说，这是个半正式的活动，所以请记得不要穿牛仔裤、t恤和夹拖那类的服装。可以穿小礼服或是裤装套装加上高跟鞋。

fiona: hmm…i’m not sure if i have any formal clothes…

fiona：嗯……我不确定我有没有什麼正式的服装……。

wendy: don’t worry. i’ve got plenty. you can borrow mine.

wendy：不用担心，我有狠多件。你可以跟我借。

nicole: all right, i’d better let you guys get back to lunch. i’ll see you on friday!

nicole：好，那我就不打扰你们用餐了，星期五见！
