(commentary) why hemp should be our favorite plant

(时事评论) 為什麼大麻应该成為我们最喜爱的植物？

hemp is, truly, a miracle plant. it has a fast rate of growing each season (250-400 plants per square meter reaching up to 15ft tall), and can be harvested after only 120 days.

大麻实实在在是种神奇的植物。它每季成长的速度都极快（每平方公尺内250～400株大麻可长到高达15呎高），只要120天就能收成。

hemp can be used for its oil, seed, wax, resin, rope, cloth, pulp, paper, fuel and building products. hemp seeds are more nutritious and economical to produce than soybeans. hemp is a more sustainable and renewable source of paper products than trees. 1 acre will produce as much paper as 2-4 acres of trees, and can be recycled more times. building materials like fiberboard that is stronger than wood, insulation, “hempcrete” (similar to concrete but breathable, bug/germ resistant and slightly flexible, while being both stronger and lighter), and plastics can all be made from hemp. biofuels and clothing that is durable enough for shoes, jeans and athletic wear, as well as able to be mixed with silk for lingerie, can also be produced. one acre of hemp will produce as much fiber as 2-3 acres of cotton, but is stronger and softer.

大麻可以精制為油、籽、蜡、树脂、绳索、织布、纸浆、纸张、燃料產品以及建材。大麻籽十分有营养，并且比大豆还要有经济价值。跟树木相比之下，大麻是个更永续且可更新的纸制品来源。一英亩的大麻就能生產跟两到四英亩树木一样多的纸张，并且能够回收更多次。建材如：比木头坚固的纤维板、绝缘材料、「大麻水泥」（类似水泥但是有通气性、防虫／细菌并且有些许弹性，同时也更坚韧、更轻）和塑胶，这些都能用大麻制成。大麻也能制造出生态燃料和布料，此种布料耐用到足以用来制造鞋子、牛仔裤和运动服装而也可和丝结合做成内衣裤。一英亩的大麻就能生產出两至三英亩棉花能够生產出的纤维，但是比棉花更加强韧，也更柔软。

hemp is also useful for cleaning up soil contamination. studies indicate it can be used in phytoremediation and help clean ash, sewage sludge, or heavy metal buildup in soil.

大麻也对清理土壤污染十分有效。研究指出大麻可以用在「植物整治」上，并协助清理灰烬、污水淤泥或是土壤中累积的重金属。

hemp is not psychoactive, and often misjudged based on its similarity to marijuana, but isn’t it time we gave it a chance?

大麻不会影响人的心理或是精神，常常会因為跟大麻菸草相像而被误解、得到不好的评价，但现在是时候给它个机会了吧？
