 (life) frankincense may disappear soon

(生活) 乳香可能狠快会消失

frankincense, the earthy, woodsy scent used to make oils and incense, may be no more in the near future. the trees used for making frankincense, boswellia, are being cut down at an alarming rate. the trees take a long time to mature, and in the middle east and africa, where development is increasing at a fast pace, the trees are being cleared to make room for communities. in other areas, farming of the trees for their scent is also causing the demise of this species. frankincense is famous at christmas time due to the legend of jesus’ birth, where three wise men came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh (another popular oil and incense fragrance.)

乳香，一种可用来制作油品和薰香的自然森林香气，在不久的将来可能不会再有了。用来制作乳香的树种，乳香树，正以惊人的速度被砍阀著。该树种需要长时间熟成，而在中东与非洲这些开发速率逐渐加快的地区，这些树木被砍光以腾出空间给社区发展。在其他的地方，為了取得其香气而栽种该树种也造成该物种灭绝。乳香在圣诞时节广為人知是因為在耶穌出世传说中的三名智者带来了金子、乳香和没药（另外一种受人欢迎的油品和薰香香精。）

(the loss of frankincense)judy and peter are a couple. they are in the store buying christmas items. let’s listen to their conversation.

(乳香的减少) judy和peter是一对夫妻。他们正在店里面购买圣诞商品。来听听看他们的对话吧。

judy: wow, this frankincense is so expensive!

judy：哇，这乳香好贵喔！

peter: wow, you’re right. it’s almost twice as much as last year.

peter：哇，你说的对。这几乎是去年的两倍。

judy: i wonder why that is.

judy：我狠好奇那是為什麼。

peter: i hear it’s because the trees used to make it are being cut down at such a fast rate that it’s becoming harder to create it.

peter：我听说这是因為用来做乳香的树被快速砍伐，快到制作它变得越来越困难。

judy: really? that’s so sad. frankincense has such a history!

judy：真的？好令人难过喔。乳香有著这麼一段历史！

peter: yes, but, unfortunately, places in the world are moving forward and cutting down trees to build communities and infrastructure.

peter：是啊，但是狠不幸地，世界各地持续发展并且砍树建造社区与公共建设。

judy: can’t anything be done about it?

judy：不能為此做任何事情吗？

peter: i’m not sure, so maybe we should just enjoy frankincense while we can.

peter：我不确定，所以也许我们应该在还有机会的时候好好享用乳香。
