这间低屋顶的房间通风不好，令人气闷。

[误] The air in this low-ceilinged room was stuffy and oppressive.

[正] This low-ceilinged room was stuffy and oppressive.

注：虽然汉语中可以说“空气闷”，但是在英语中，stuffy 和oppressive 等的主语不能是air，而应当是某个地方，如theatre（戏院），classrooom（教室）等名词。

stuffy: 通风不良的;窒息的;闷热的
a stuffy room
空气不流通的房间

oppressive: 压抑的;沉重的;烦闷的
oppressive heat
闷热

他英国之行的目的是丰富语言知识。

[误] His aim of going to English is to improve his knowledge of language.
[正] His aim in going to England is to improve his knowledge of language.

注：aim 作名词，意思是“目的，目标”，它可以后跟动词不定式：Our aim to complete the work before the end of the month.（我们在月底以前完成这项工作的目标。）或者后接介词in 引导的短语：What\'s your aim in life? （你的人生目标是什么？）但是不能用介词 of。

他开始学英语，目的是做一名教师。

[误] He started to learn English with the aim to become a teacher.
[正] He strarted to learn English with the aim of becoming a teacher.

注：“with the aim of + 动名词”是固定的短语结构，意为“以期......，意在......”，不能改用动词不定式。但是，当 aim 用作主语时，应该用be + 动词不定式作谓语。

这篇文章还需要润色一下。

[误] This article has yet to be adorned.

[正] This article has yet to be polished.

adorn: to make sth/sb look more attractive by decorating it or them with sth 装饰;使生色

The hall was adorned with flowers.
大厅装饰着鲜花。

polish: to improve a piece of writing, a speech etc by making slight changes to it before it is completely finished 使优美,使精炼;润饰

The speaker spent several days polishing her lecture.
演讲者花了几天时间润饰她的演讲稿。

注：adorn 的意思是“修饰，装饰，打扮”不能用于文章、作品的“润色”。polish 的意思是“擦亮（机器），抛光（器具），使......优美，使（语言、文字）洗练，润饰(文章，作品)。

我同意他认为需要多办些学校的意见。
[误] I agree with him to the need for more schools.
[正] I agree with him about the need for more schools.
注：用agree 表示“同意某人（的意见）”时，后接介词with：He agreed with me.（他同意我的意见。）若要表示“在某件事上同意某人的意见”时，要用agree with sb. on/about sth.的结构。所以误句中的to 须改为on 或
about。

我们完全赞同你在会上提出的计划。
[误] We fully agree with the plan you put forward at the meeting.
[正] We fully agree to the plan you put forward at the meeting.
注：表示“同意计划、建议、提议”时，agree 后接介词to，而不接介词with。

[误] The State Council agreed to the plan for further development of tourism early this year.
[正] The State Council approved the plan for further development of tourism early this year.
注：agree 是“同意”的意思，一般指同级的人或机构之间经过讨论协商取得一致的意见，approve 是权力机关对某项计划、措施、行动、方法等的“批准”、“同意”。也可表示上级对下级、长辈对小辈之间的“同意”。

在晚年，那里的人们过着幸福的生活。
[误] In their old ages, the people there are living a happy life.
[正] In their old age, the people there are living a happy life.
注：age 既是可数名词，也是不可数名词。当作“年龄，年纪”解时，可数不可数都可以。
当表示“（做某事的）年龄限制”时，为不可数，如在under age（未到规定年龄），over age（超龄），come of age（达到法定年龄）等说法中。
在口语中表示“很久”之意时，通常用复数形式：I haven\'t seen you for ages.（好久没见到你了。）
因此，在in their old age 中，age 表示的是“人生的某一阶段”的意思，应该是不可数名词，没有复数形式。
