注:accommodation 是个不可数名词,但在美国英语中常用复数,不过,无论英国英语还是美国英语,accommadation 前 都不可加不定冠词 an.这个词的意思是"a place to live",指的是"(住宿用的)套房,旅馆房间,住房等". 复数(accommadations)的用法:[住宿(有时包括伙食)等条件;房间,舱位,坐位或铺位等]须用复形,有复念,常不可 数.作"住宿(有时包括伙食)等条件"解,如: motel accommodations The city has excellent hotel accommodations. He's coming up here next week. I want to see about accommadations. He wired the hotel accommadations directly by calling the Overland Park Ramada at 1-800-2 Ramada.


420. 经理由一位秘书陪同.
[误] The manager was accompanied with a secretary.
[正] The manager was accompanied by a secretary.
注:accompany 作"陪同"解时,通常用 be accompanied by 的结构.而 be accompanied with 则常指"(两事物)伴随而 来".另外,be accompanied on/at,表示"由......伴奏". gby great job indeed~~~

421. 他是自愿参加的.
[误] He participated out of his own accord.
[正] He participated of his own accord.
注:accord 作名词用时,意思是"符合","一致".of one's own accord 的意思是"自愿地,主动地".误句在 of his own accord 的前面加上 out 一词是多余的.

422. 依我看,房租太贵.
[误] According to me, the rent's too high.
[正] In my opinion, the rent's too high.
注:"按照我的意见"或"根据我的看法"应译成 in my opinion.但在转述别人的意见或看法时就可以用 according to 这个短 语.例如:according to the news report(根据新闻报导),according to reliable sources(根据可靠消息来源).

423. 他们一步一步地达到了目标.
[误] They reached their aim step by step.
[正] They achieved their aim step by step.
注:达到目的或目标,常用的说法有三种:1,achieve one's aim; 2,accomplish/achieve/fulfil a purpose;3,achieve/ attain a goal.三处一般不能用 reach 或 get 等动词.

424. 我认识那位女士.
[误] I acquainted the lady/I acquainted with the lady.
[正] I am acquainted with the lady.
注:acquaint 是及物动词,意为"使认识",故其常用句型是 acquain sb. with sth.(使某人熟悉某事),或 be acquainted with sb.(认识某人).acquaint 和 acquainted 之后的介词只能用 with,没有其他选择.

425. 要是游过河去,需要多少时间
[误] How long would it take to swim through the river
[正] How long would it take to swim across the river
注:across 表示"到达一条线,一条河或一条道路的对面"(与"细而长"的物体相对而言的位置或动作),through 不能用于 从"细而长"的物体之一侧到另一侧的动作.

426. 他又干了件傻事.
[误] He made another stupid act.
[正] He committed another stupid act.
注:act 作名词时,和其搭配的动词通常是 commit,do 或 perform.

427. 和为比言词更重要. [误] Acts are more important than words. [正] Actions are more important than words. 注:act 和 action 都表示"行动,行为",在有些场合可以互相换用.但是,act 指具体的,短暂的个别行动,而 action 侧重指 抽象的行动,且时间较长,包括行动的各个步骤.

428. 失业是当前所面临的一个问题.
[误] Unemployment is a very actual problem.
[正] Unemployment is a current problem.
注:表示"当前发生"或"存在"的意思时,通常用 present, up-to-date, current 等形容词,而 actual 的意思是"existing as a real fact"(实际的,实在的),多用于纠正误解或引出出乎意料的消息.

429. 我们现在对国际事务感兴趣.
[误] We are interested in world affair now.
[正] We are interested in world affairs now.
注:affair 指与公众有关的"事务"时,须用复数形式,所以误句中的 world affair 须改为 world affairs.另外,current affairs(时事),foreign affairs(外交事务),affairs of state(国事)等,也都用复数形式.在指"(关系到某个人的)事"时,用单 数.在指某一事件时,用单数,在 have an affair with sb.(与某人私通)这个固定词组中用单数.

430. 昨天下午,我们的校长在办公楼二楼的接待室里接待了几位外宾.
[误] Yesterday afternoon our president received several foreign vistitors in the parlor on the second floor of the Administration Building.
[正] Yesterday afternoon our president received several foreign vistitors in the reception room on the second floor of the Administration Building.
注arlor 在美国英语里指私人家里的客厅,也指旅馆里的休息室等房间,但现在已少用.在美国,也用于某些商业性的营业 室,如 ice-cream parlo冷饮室,hairdresser's parlor,beauty parlor美容室.学校以及其它公共机关里的接待室(或会客 室),一般用 reception room.
