今年全国两会主打“节俭风”，各驻地都提供简化服务（pared-down service），没有迎接仪式（no welcome ceremony）、没有鲜花礼品（no flowers or gifts），只有简洁的文件袋和会议须知（a small bag of printed materials and meeting agenda），文件传输尽量减少纸张使用（paper use），大部分实现网上办公（online office）。

中共中央政治局2012年12月4日召开会议，审议并一致同意中央政治局关于改进工作作风、密切联系群众的八项规定（an eight-point code to cut bureaucracy and maintain close ties with the people）。规定包括，精简会议活动、改进会风，精简文件简报、改进文风，规范出访活动，改进警卫工作，改进新闻报道，厉行节约，等。
