gǔ shí hòu sònɡ ɡuó yǒu ɡè nónɡ fū ，zhǒnɡ le dào miáo hòu ，biàn xī wànɡ nénɡ

古时候宋国有个农夫，种了稻苗后，便希望能

zǎo zǎo shōu chénɡ 。

早早收成。

In an ancient country named Song, there was a farmer who wished for an early harvest right after he had planted the rice seedlings.

měi tiān tā dào dào tián shí ，fā jué nà xiē dào miáo zhǎng dé fēi chánɡ màn 。tā

每天他到稻田时，发觉那些稻苗长得非常慢。他

děnɡ dé bù nài fán ，xīn xiǎnɡ:“zěn me yànɡ cái nénɡ shǐ dào miáo zhǎng dé ɡāo ，

等得不耐烦，心想 :“怎么样才能使稻苗长得高，

zhǎng hěn kuài ne ？xiǎnɡ le yòu xiǎnɡ，tā zhōnɡ yú xiǎnɡ dào yī ɡè “zuì jiā fānɡ fǎ ”，

长很快呢 ? 想了又想，他终于想到一个 “最佳方法 ”，

jiù shì jiānɡ dào miáo bō ɡāo jǐ fēn 。

就是将稻苗拨高几分。

Every day when he went to the field, he always thought the seedlings were growing too slowly. He was impatient and thought: how could I help them to grow higher and faster? After much consideration, he finally came up with a “best way”, to pull the seedlings up a few inches.

jīnɡ ɡuò yī fān xīn láo hòu ，tā mǎn yì dì kánɡ chú tóu huí jiā xiū xi 。rán hòu

经过一番辛劳后，他满意地扛锄头回家休息。然后

huí qù duì jiā lǐ de rén shuō:“jīn tiān kě bǎ wǒ lèi huài le ，wǒ bānɡ zhù zhuānɡ jià

回去对家里的人说 :“今天可把我累坏了，我帮助庄稼

miáo zhǎng ɡāo yī dà jié ！”

苗长高一大截！”

After enormous amount of hard work, he went home to rest and told his family:” I was so tried today. I have helped the rice seedlings grow much higher.”

tā ér zǐ ɡǎn kuài pǎo dào dì lǐ qù yī kàn ，hé miáo quán dōu kū sǐ le 。

他儿子赶快跑到地里去一看，禾苗全都枯死了。

His son hurried to the field only to find the seedlings all dead.
