两家小店 Two Small Shops

yǒu liǎnɡ jiā mài zhōu de xiǎo diàn 。zuǒ biān zhè ɡè hé yòu biān nà ɡè měi tiān de ɡù
有两家卖粥的小店。左边这个和右边那个每天的顾

kè xiānɡ chà bù duō ，dōu shì chuān liú bù xī，rén jìn rén chū de 。rán ér wǎn shàng
客相差不多，都是川流不息，人进人出的。然而晚上

jié suàn de shí hòu ，zuǒ biān zhè ɡè zǒnɡ shì bǐyòu biān nà ɡè duō chū bǎi
结算的时候，左边这个总是比右边那个多出百

shí yuán lái。tiān tiān rú cǐ 。yú shì ，wǒ zǒu jìn le yòu biān nà ɡè zhōu diàn 。fú wù
十元来。天天如此。于是，我走进了右边那个粥店。服务

xiǎo jiě wēi xiào zhe bǎ wǒ yínɡ jìn qù ，ɡěi wǒ shènɡ hǎo yīwǎn zhōu 。wèn wǒ:“jiā bù
小姐微笑着把我迎进去，给我盛好一碗粥。问我:“加不

jiā jī dàn?”wǒ shuō jiā 。yú shì tā ɡěi wǒ jiā le yī ɡè jī dàn 。měi jìn lái yī ɡè ɡù kè ，
加鸡蛋 ?”我说加。于是她给我加了一个鸡蛋。每进来一个顾客，

服务员都要问一句:“加不加鸡蛋 ?”也有说加的，也有说不

加的，大概各占一半。我又走进左边那个小店。服务小

姐同样微笑着把我迎进去，给我盛好一碗粥。问

wǒ:“Jiā yī ɡè jī dàn hái shì jiā liǎnɡ ɡè jī dàn?”wǒ xiào le ，shuō:“jiā yī ɡè。”zài
我:“加一个鸡蛋还是加两个鸡蛋 ?”我笑了，说 :“加一个。”再

jìn lái yī ɡè ɡù kè，fú wù yuán yòu wèn yī jù:“jiā yī ɡè jī dàn hái shì jiā liǎnɡ ɡè jī
进来一个顾客，服务员又问一句:“加一个鸡蛋还是加两个鸡

dàn?”ài chī jī dàn huánɡ jiù yào qiú jiā liǎnɡ ɡè ，bù ài chīde jiù yào qiú jiā yī ɡè 。
蛋 ?”爱吃鸡蛋黄就要求加两个，不爱吃的就要求加一个。

yě yǒu yào qiú bù jiā de ，dàn shì hěn shǎo。yī tiān xià lái ，zuǒ biān zhè ɡè xiǎo diàn
也有要求不加的，但是很少。一天下来，左边这个小店

jiù yào bǐ yòu biān nà ɡè mài chū hěn duō ɡè jī dàn 。
就要比右边那个卖出很多个鸡蛋。

There were two small porridge shops---the one on the left and the one on the right. Both of them were always busy and crowdy with about the same number of customers. But when they checked the account book at night, the left one always earned dozens more yuan than the right. It was always like this everyday. I went into the shop on the right. The waitress welcomed me in with a smile, delivered a bowl of porridge to me, and asked:”An egg?” I said yes, so she gave me an egg. She asked every one the same question. Some said “yes” and others said “no”. They were about fifty fifty. Then I walked into the porridge shop on the left. The waitress also welcomed me in, served me with a bowl of porridge and asked:”One egg or two?” I smiled and answered:”One, please.” The waitress asked every one into the shop the same question. Those who like eggs said “two” and those who don’t said “one”. Rarely did someone say “none”. After a day, the shop on the left naturally sold many more eggs than the one on the right.
