 Life English – Visiting a Night Market (2)

生活会话──逛夜市（2）

Megan is an exchange student from Canada. She went to a night market in Taiwan for the first time today. She visited several stalls, but was too scared to try any of the food, so she kept walking, hoping to find something more normal to eat.

Megan是从加拿大来的交换学生，今天是他第一次逛台湾的夜市。她逛了几个摊子，却都是她不敢吃的东西，她只好继续走，希望能找到比较正常的食物。

Stall D: Come in for some spicy stinky tofu! It’s really yummy!

D摊位：来喔来喔！麻辣臭豆腐好吃喔！

Megan: Wow, it has a very special smell. I’ve always wanted to try stinky tofu!

Megan：这味道闻起来好特别呀！我一直都好想试试看臭豆腐！

Stall D: Hey there, beautiful! Come in and have a bowl of our delicious stinky tofu!

D摊位：美女！我们的臭豆腐很好吃喔！来一碗吧！

Megan: Does it have anything weird in it? Like…

Megan：请问裡面有没有什麽怪怪的东西？比方说……

Stall D: Of course not! Our stock is made with an exclusive combination of more than 10 Chinese medicinal herbs, spicy fermented tofu, and the freshest duck blood!

D摊位：哪会有啥怪怪的东西，我们的麻辣臭豆腐的汤头，可是用十几种独家的中药材加上麻辣豆腐乳、还有最新鲜的鸭血一起熬煮而成的！

Megan: You’ve got to be kidding me. There’s blood again?! What is it with you Taiwanese people and animals’ blood? Geez…what exactly can I eat here?

Megan：天呀！又是加了血，你们台湾人怎麽这麽爱吃动物的血呀！我到底还能吃什麽呢？

Stall D: You know what they say: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” How about I deep fry some stinky tofu for you instead? That way you won’t have to eat any “weird” stuff.

D摊位：小姐！入境就得随俗呀！不然这样，我炸个臭豆腐给你嚐嚐，这样就没有什麽怪怪的东西了吧？

Megan: All right, I’ll just have a plate of deep fried stinky tofu.

Megan：好吧！那来一盘炸豆腐就好。

Staff D: No problem. Here, have a taste!

D摊位：没问题！来囉！嚐嚐看！

Megan: It smells really good. I love it! Can I ask what the vegetables on top are?

Megan：好香喔！我好喜欢这味道。请问这上面的青菜是？

Stall D: It’s Taiwanese pickled cabbage. It’s similar to kimchi but ours isn’t spicy. And it hasn’t been fermented very long because we want to keep it fresh. You should still be able to taste the natural sweetness of the cabbage.

D摊位：是我们台式泡菜，跟韩国泡菜有点像，但我们这没有加辣，而且为了保持新鲜，所以没有醃很久，你还吃得到青菜的甜味呢！

Megan: I finally got to taste Taiwanese stinky tofu! I think I’m going to cry now.

Megan：我终于吃到台湾的臭豆腐了，太感动了。

Stall D: Hey, there’s plenty more food ahead that you can try! They should all be fairly “normal”.

D摊位：美女，你等会就再往前吃，还有很多好吃的啦！应该都还算「正常」啦。

Megan: Thanks for the food. I’ll go have a look in a minute!

Megan：老闆，谢谢你的臭豆腐喔！我等会就去试试！
