题目: Some people prefer to buy technological devices as soon as they are available to the public, while other people prefer to wait. Which do you prefer? 往年出现次数: 2次(2014年6月15日、2011年6月25日)

老师范文: It is often the case that Apple fans have to line up or even camp outside Apple stores for getting their hands on the newly-released gadget, without considering whether it is a necessity of their life. This phenomenon is simply the tip of the iceberg in regards to some people’s spending habit, which others cannot agree to. Speaking personally, I would suggest that consumers stay rational while deciding when to buy technological products. To begin with, prudent buyers should be aware that the newest does not necessarily equal the best. When the newly-released technological products are once available to the public, few people have figured out thoroughly both the upsides and downsides of the gadgets. Taking devices of Apple company as an example, I got to know everything but defects of the product while watching the iPhone 6 launch in Sept 2014. Neither the manufacturers nor the advertisers would willingly tell the users that the phone was actually prone to bend when put in certain pockets, or that Siri might abruptly start screaming to the people around you that you kidnapped her and begging them to call the police. That being so, it is essential for consumers to think twice and preferably to wait until credible user experience has been reported before purchasing these devices. Moreover, despite of the fact that the newest devices may not suggest better performance, technological goods are being updated and replaced rapidly, thus making it a costly purchase to buy the products as soon as they are released. Pricey technological products are sold at a high price for several reasons, and prices change primarily according to supply and demand. For instance, iPhone 8 used to be sold at more than ten thousand Chinese yuan about one year ago, while its price fell drastically the next year. This is not because of any alterations of the phone itself, but it should be the consequences of the correlation between the number of phones for sale and the number of potential customers. Obviously, for some people, buying the gadget that was released several months ago is worth it for paying only half the original price. To sum up, as the purchase of a piece of technological product could take up a certain proportion of a person’s expenditure, one should always learn to budget and to evaluate such products to see whether it is practical to buy them once they are released.

口语部分 题目: Task 1 If one of your friends complain that he couldn’t fall asleep before an important event, what advice would you like to offer to help him relax and go to sleep?

老师解答I’d tell him to take it easy and try not to sweat it too much. And I’d probably encourage him by telling him that he has done everything he could to prepare, so there’s really no need to worry too much about the result. In terms of the methods to relax, maybe I’d suggest him to jog or do some yoga; and also recommend having a glass of milk, which, according to some of my friends, seems to help them fall asleep faster. And there’s the trick of counting sheep, although I’m not personally convinced by that method. And finally I’d tell him that even if he can’t fall asleep right away; it’s not a super big deal, and will probably have little impact on his performance the next day. Plus being too anxious about falling asleep will only backfire and cause insomnia. So he really should just take it easy.
