首先，香水可是称为perfume或者fragrance。根据浓度（concentration）的不同由淡到浓可以分为以下几个种类：

 

 1. Eau Fraiche 清香水

2. Eau de Cologne (EDC)/Body spray 古龙水或香体喷雾

3. Eau de Toilette (EDT) 淡香水

4. Eau de Parfum (EDP) 淡香精

5. Parfum/ Extrait 浓香精

 

 EDC or body spray are usually used by men, especially when they go exercising.

 

EDT and EDP have a relatively lighter scent and are suitable for daily use, while parfum is the strongest and thus more expensive. People usually use parfum in formal occasions such as banquets or parties.

Perfume is described in a musical metaphor as having three sets of notes. The notes unfold over time, with the immediate impression of the top notes leading to the deeper middle notes, and the base notes gradually appearing as the final stage.

 

香水的气味根据挥发时间的不同可以分为前调（top notes）、中调（middle notes）和后调（base notes）。

 

Top notes last for about 10 minutes and middle notes are the heart of a perfume and can last for about1.5 to 3 hours. Base notes are the longest one to stay around your skin.

Floral 花香调

This is so far the most popular type of perfume. Floral scent is always romantic, light and slightly sweet. Floral perfume always contain elements of flowers such as the rose, violet, lily, jasmine and lavender.

如玫瑰、紫罗兰、百合、茉莉花和薰衣草都是花香调香水的常用元素。 很多香水也会用到橙花（orange flowers）的味道。像祖马龙（Jo Malone）的橙花就是很受追捧的一款花香调香水。

 

Oriental 东方调 Oriental perfumes originate from many exotic parts of the world. This kind of perfume is usually made from pepper(辣椒), cloves(丁香), cinnamon(肉桂) and vanilla(香草). 东方调香水通常充满异域风情。像娇兰的“一千零一夜”（Guerlain Sharlimar）就是非常经典的一款东方调香水。
