很向往到国外实习、打工或上班吗？ 如果英文说得卡卡，那可就糟糕了！ 「大夜班」、「粗估」、「转亏为盈」的英文怎么说？ 也别再用最简单的 “Are you busy?” 了！ 还可以怎么询问同事「你正在忙吗？」

 

1. In the middle of something?

你现在正在忙吗? 与 “Are you busy?” 相比，这句话比较强调「现在」忙不忙的状态，前者用法较广，时间点亦包含「最近」。如果想找人八卦、想找人聊聊、或是想找人帮忙，这句话也派得上用场噢！ If you’re asked whether it’s a good time to talk, you can be honest and say you’re in the middle of something. 如果对方问你这时说话是否方便，你可以实话实说，表示自己在忙于某事。

 

2. extension number 分机号码

这词彙一定要学起来，否则忘了主管的分机号码又不知道如何向同事询问，可就麻烦啦！ Will you please tell me his extension number so that I can call him again? 可以请你告诉我他的分机号码，让我方便打给他？

 

 3. Bottom line 最重要的是

 除了有「最重要的是…」之外，也有「最后的底限」、「不能再退让的原则」的意思！ Bottom line, you bring in revenue for the company. 最重要的是，你为公司带来收入。 Bottom line, if moving to the cloud does not have a positive impact on the success of the business, then it’s probably not worth doing. 底线是，如果改为云端计算后，对于业务的成功没有任何正面影响，那么可能就不值得这麽做了。

 

 4. out of the red 转亏为盈

 红色在西方人眼中具亏损、赤字的意思，大家可别喜孜孜地告诉上司 “Our company is in the red.” 他肯定不会给你什么好脸色！ We’ve got to find more savings to get out of the red. 我们还需要更多的存量资金才能走出亏损。 ＊补充＊ 赚钱：

in the black, make money, profitable 赔钱：in the red, lose money, unprofitable, non-profit-making

 

5. get the ball rolling 开始执行某事

这是个很口语的说法，要开始进行企划或专案时，可以充满乐观地与同事说句：

 Let’s get the ball rolling on this project! 开始执行这项专案吧!

 

6. ballpark figure 大概的数字

ballpark 为球场、棒球场，ballpark figure 指的是大略估计的数字意思。 在公司裡，如果你的工作与会计或金钱往来相关，就一定要学会这个字了！有时候美国老板甚至会将 figure 省略，如 “Give me a ballpark .” 可别误会为她想要投资球场啦。
