F :  Certainly.
当然可以。
 
M :  I'm going to a dinner party tonight.
我今晚去参加晚宴。
 
M :  Should I take the hostess a small gift?
我应该给女主人带件小礼物吗？
 
F :  I don't see why not, if you want to.
如果你想送的话，没什么不可以啊。
 
M :  How about a box of chocolate?
一盒巧克力怎么样？
 
F :  That will be fine.

M :  Do you think I should call your boss by his first name?
你认为我应该直呼你的老板的名字吗？
 
F :  No, I think you'd better call him Mr. Thompson.

F :  It might offend him if you started calling him Bill right away.
如果你开始就称呼他比尔，可能会冒犯他的。
 
M :  OK, thanks.

F :  Excuse me, but I am not familiar with the tipping here.

M :  You're not sure how much to tip?

F :  No, I never am.

F :  And I feel uncomfortable trying to decide whether I should or not.
而且每次要考虑该不该付小费的时候，我都感到很不自在。
 
M :  Well, it's not always clear.
噢，其实没有固定的规矩。
 
M :  We usually tip 15% in restaurants, but we don't tip in fast food places.
我们到饭店通常付 15% 的小费，可是在快餐店里我们是不付小费的。
 
F :  I see. Thank you.
