M :  I'm going to Jimmy and Nancy's wedding.
我要去参加吉米和南希的婚礼。
 
M :  And I wondered what I should give them.
我在想该送什么。
 
F :  It's our custom to buy some wedding presents.
我们的习惯是买结婚礼物来送。
 
M :  Like what?
什么样的礼物呢？
 
F :  Well, anything you think would be useful for starting a household.
你认为对于新家庭有用的东西都可以呀。
 
M :  Money seems pretty useful to me.
钱很有用。
 
F :  Yes, but a hand-picked gift just seems more personal, I suppose.
是的，但是亲自挑选的礼物更显得有人情味。

 M :  That was a wonderful dinner party Mr. Thompson gave for me last night.

F :  It's his way of letting you know he considers you an important client.
这就表示他是多么的看重你。
 
M :  It was a very kind gesture.
的确是很客气。
 
M :  And I enjoyed every minute of it.
我从头到尾都好高兴。
 
F :  It's a custom here.
这是我们的习惯。
 
F :  Mr. Thompson wants you to enjoy doing business with us.
汤普森先生希望你跟我们合作愉快。
